about your teacher
If you didn't already know, my name is Shelley Kennedy. I grew up in the small country town of Wellborn. Most people have no clue where that is so I usually just say I'm from Annistion, Alabama. If that doesn't work. My last resort is to say I'm from North Alabama.
I moved to Mobile, Alabama to attend college at the University of Mobile in 2007. I knew right away that I wanted to be an educator. I actually subconsciously knew at the age of five when I would line up my dolls and play school. It was my sophomore year of high school that I set my heart toward kindling the love of learning in children. My school had a mentor program with the sister elementary school that really started it all.
I absolutely loved my time at the University of Mobile. I could not have asked for more qualified educators, mentors, leaders in the education department. The thirst to teach became quenched when I had the opportunity to student teach at Robert E. Lee in first grade. After my time there I moved back to my hometown of Anniston. My heart was really in Mobile but I also wanted to TEACH. I landed a wonderful opportunity to teach at a private Christian school in Oxford, AL. It was my first year teaching. I was teaching a combination classroom of first and second grade. That seems daunting but it was more about differentiating my instruction and not simply catering to a first grade and second grade level.
It was great but I knew Mobile was the city for me. After MUCH praying and searching I found the greatest place in the world. It was actually a place I had already been. Robert E. Lee Elementary. I was signed on to teach kindergarten. What a wonderful year of learning, laughing, and growing. I also became engaged that year and married my "real men marry teachers' husband in July of 2013. I started out my second year at Lee with first grade. WOW! I became even more in love with teaching. (I know you're doing the math. That leaves me with three and a half years of teaching experience. Bring on year four!)
My Teaching Moto
"Changing lives, to change the world"
In the classroom my students are my top priority. (and even outside of school :) It is not only a privilege to work with your child but my mission. That mission is “changing lives, to change the world”. I take this seriously, knowing that each student is influenced by his or her educators. The influences, the character building, friendships, accomplishments, and goal conquering made this year will be what changes the world! Your child!

What do I enjoy doing?
- Reading a good book (usually something prospective changing.)
- Spending time outside. Usually that outside time is spent working in the yard; tending to my plants.
- Crafting and making things. Things depend. Sometimes it's repainting furniture. Sewing up a DIY. Usually things involving paint, glue, paper, thread, and a sewing machine.
- Surfing teacherspayteachers.com . It's a great educator's resource but a bad habit. ha.
- Drinking coffee. The kiddos learn this by the first week because I always have my cup of coffee in the morning.
